2008 - 2010 Dualistic concept: Flesh and Spirit
Head and legs often appear in my works. Christians believe that “flesh” and “spirit” represent “a way of being” or “a way of life”. The head implies “spirit”, or the world of ideas, while legs imply “flesh” “physical body” or life energy. The true inner feelings well up like magma, breathing life into the canvas. “Spirits” is a work for conveying the energy of life that has sprung from the heart.
“Big feet set on a soil” is my highly motivated work to paint “tremendous life energy”. Big feet drawn with thick lines are powerful and strong. “The back of the head” work, which was exhibited in 2010 together with “Big feet”, depicts a “concept”. The picture of the head filling up the whole big canvas raises a philosophical question asking “what does it mean to be human?”. These two works depicting head and feet express what a human being is supposed to be.
