1993 - 2003 Newspaper work & Yellow work
Newspaper work was created by pasting daily newspapers together in chronological order. I had been working on the piece for around 10 years. It piled up high over time and increased in size. It went beyond “paper” to become an object, which was the outcome of my steady efforts and quiet dedication. It was a simple work, and I treated it as “a practice and repeating discipline”, which was almost like praying. My practice of pasting newspapers at about the same time every day increased its importance in my heart day by day, and the work has now become a bridge to connect the past and the present.
Although the object was destined to decay, the time and the process I devoted to the object remain in my heart.
“Yellow work” and “Newspaper work” share something common in the mental attitude of the artist. In my view, yellow is a color of “soil”, one of the basic colors of human beings.
